Social net work

Social networking could be nuisance. I often thought that only oldies like myself feel that way, until this morning I encounter some of the 20 something college students share the same sentiment.

There are many problems of course, we are only talking about those individuals using the medium to cruse the social net to check out others profile, and hit you up for friendship.

These individuals cruse the net, check out your friends profiles, for whatever motive they may have, they wanted to be your friends. I feel like that my privacy was being violated. You can ignore, them, but they keep coming back. When you got a lot of invites that became a nuisance.

Why do they want to be your friend anyway? Social network in great in may ways, sometimes it really get on my nerve when misused. Unfortunately, it is like a girlfriend, can't live without them, just have to deal with it.

City went to the dogs

There are dogs, many dogs in the city. Why do people want dogs in pigeonhole of living space, there is scarily enough room for a bed, and a couch in most apts.

Some breeds are more social than the others, just like you and me. We like to socialize and so do dogs. They needed to roam free, not to be restrained by the length of your leash. As an alternative to public parks, we created dog parks for our dog. I guess that is Ok.

However the merchandizes you can found in any pet stores for dogs is another story. Dyeing their hair, and a fashionable trim for your dogs is not enough any more. There are clothing lines, footwear, eyewear, carry on bags for small dogs. It is amazing. I even saw dogs in baby strollers on sidewalk of the upper eastside. At first glance I thought it was just an ugly baby, until I realize that is the work of human gone wild on dogs.

Recently I volunteered to walk a small dog belongs to a my friend, When I finally got her to the Park, let her out from the carry on bag, she sit of the sidewalk and stare at me, as if I was the crazy one to make her walk. Sorry buddy, the shoulder ride is over, use your legs. What the world is coming to? Picking up their poop is not enough any more?

I do not hate dogs, I simply don’t understand why do city folks insisted on treating their domesticated “ANIMAL” as if they were human. Plus they cost almost as much as a small child. Are we so desperate for companionship? I simply don’t know.

Life Transparancy

We talk about transparency a lot these days. We want our Government our banks, businesses a little more transparent, etc. What about ourselves, are we transparent? Or our closet door is shut and double locked.

Looking around in the subway this morning. I thought thank God that isn’t any hyper tourists announcing their life before they arrive NYC for their vacation to the whole world, or gossipy teens talk openly about their encounters. Is that transparency or just nuisance?

Some of the things we kept to ourselves are not even that important. For example my “BEST“ friend fail to mention in our daily email exchange he is loosing his job, instead I learned that from our mutual friend amount other things that is changing in his life, is beyond my comprehension? Loosing one’s job in bad economic times is nothing to be embarrassed about, especially not between best friends. Perhaps, this is not about transparencies.

What about ourselves? If we are demanding transparency from others, are we setting a good example on our own action? Are we willing to do that, or we are double standard?

The question is, what is transparency, and to what degree is acceptable?

Goldman Sachs

It is unbelievable that the bunch of vultures at Goldman Sachs are getting these billion dollar bonuses again; even though it is suppose to be in the form of stock pay out, it is still money eventually.

Do they have Alzheimer? What don’t they remember the pledge for bailout. The unemployment line is still long. Most companies have reduction in salary for their employees. For the lucky few like myself still employed are experiencing salary freeze for the last two years. To learn the news of their bonuses is a slap on the face. It is tax players money, my money that they are getting. Make my stomach ill.

May be you can say they deserve it. I am not sophisticated enough to crunch all the numbers and equation that is put forth to confuse me. I know nothing how they calculate the profit ratio or revenue. All that I know is, they throw their employee to the wolf, crashed the economy, make a full out of the President, they got rewarded, and laugh all the way to the bank.

What are the chances of walking down the street and running into someone that you know in a city like New York with inhabitants over 8,000,000, and over 1,650,000 living in Manhattan.

I was startled when someone tapped on my shoulder in the busy Times Square Subway station during rush hour. I turn round. I saw a familiar face, but who was it. I knew he is a friend. I saw him often, but at that moment. I cannot recall his name.

I am sure it happens to most of us, especially during rush hours in NYC, our single focus is to get to wherever we wanted to be. We block out anything else for the Mad rush to get into the train, dash down the stairs to different level, not to mention the trademark of New Yorkers at rush hours, brushing by each other with no apologize.

It would be nice to have some electronic device to identify them, like a nametag? Just a thought.

Some times people think that election on other state does not affect our everyday life. Unfortunately we are all closely link together. The out come of an election on the national political theatre, is more often to influence other than none. Perhaps the surprise win of Scott brown, may be a new chapter for Massachusetts, she’s been for so long regarding as a Democratic strong hold. I guess time is changing, for the good or bad remain to be seen.

The news last night to cover the NJ governor Chris Christie’s inauguration Ball is ridicules. They go on forever about the food and the casual attire required. We got it, he wanted to set an example to reinforce that change is on the way. I remain skeptical for now, let’s revisits 6 month from now.

Too much politics for one morning, but that is all my neighbors on the shuttle to work is talking about.

Monday was a day of remembrance of Martin Luther King, instead, Dr. King’s 81 birthday is over shadowed by the tragedy in Haiti. There are the usual community celebrations; somehow the feeling is not here.

To our younger generations do they really understand the importance of remembrance the struggle of the civil right movement? Or is it more importantly to watch the Jet’s winning the division title, or the Golden Global award. May be just another national holiday for us to kick back relax and more reason to have a drink.

I wondered.

It's a gloomy day. Cold and rainy and my energy level is low. Not wanting to work, yet full of restless negative energy. The phone is also felt dead silence. I feel isolated even in the city. No one is home. may be avoiding me. Not sure.

Try to learn how to follow a recipe today and failed miserably. may be I will try again other time. How hard it is to brown meat without getting it tough. There must be a mistake some where, time to call for delivery.

It is late, and still raining. I wanted to go out have a drink, the image of me in a bar having a drink by myself top me from wanting to try. I make a promise long ago that I will not be that person, I hope a never will be.

My life in the big city

What are the plans for many single New Yorkers do on the first long weekend of the year, besides planning on hitting the bars, dinning out or shopping? Although there is a huge national deficit hanging over our shoulder, and a disaster in Haiti. Can't watch the news all three days. It is depressing.

May be clean house, or just call someone over to clean house. Listen that is work already for a single male. Not to mention we spend time tune up our bod. I bet we spend as much time doing that any any female friend. We just didn't want you to know.

back to the subject. I have no plans either. Work a little. That is the unthinkable, also unavoidable, it is going to happen.
