So summer in the city officially arrived with the temperature soar so early into the season makes it even harder to get use to.
New Yorkers are use to the miserable summer when the city is sizzling, and the humidity is high. The heat intensifies along the concrete canyons. We walk in the shade while the store front put out even hotter air while trying hard to cool the inside of the store. Not to mention the smell and temperature underground. I wonder how others are deal with it.
I read in the paper this morning that some of us stick their heads into the freezer once in a while to keep cold, how ridiculous is that act. While others said that they turn the air on full blast and sit in front of it. Some even suggested it is justify eating a lot of Ice cream. These actions may grant temporary relief, not sure if it is effective.
I have been in places where the sun were so intense, one got dizzy just expose to it. Some times plastics melt use being left under the rays. In those situations there are merit to slow down and sit in the shade. Lemonade is also a good an alternative to just water, as long as you sugar is optional.
I often find that to conquer the hot house, is to take a cold shower. It works effectively. While walking may be warp a wet towel around the neck.
It was such a relief over the weekend I spend some time at Coney Island while the heat from the broad walk was unbearable. Just standing in the cool Atlantic Ocean water alone was enough to cool off at least 10 to 15 degree. The other amazing thing is that although the city itself was sizzling, I was walking in the shaded lane in Central Park it does seems to provide wonderful relief. No wonder I saw many New Yorkers just spread out under the shadow of the majestic trees in our beloved park.
I am sure most of you have your way to conquer the summer heat successfully. No matter what that may be. Care to share your method with us?
