Birthday. Americans always made a big fuss over their birthdays. It is a cute thing to do while you are a child. A chance to get more devoted love from you parents or just the gifts. May be just being reminded that they still remember that you are their child.
For grown ups; if it is a milestone birthday I suppose it is worth celebrating. Making a big fuss over birthdays years after years at the office is absurd. Besides who wants to be reminded that you are one year closer to retirement, and someone younger is waiting on the wing to take your place with lower pay.
It is such a bother for colleagues being selected to wasted countless office hours to create a custom birthday card for you that you are going to put it to the recycle shredder as soon as you are back to your office. What a waste of time and talent.
I often suspected office birthday party is just a scheme some one dreams up just for the opportunity to get a “FREE” slice of the sugar fill cake. As for others, I am sure they have better things to do at their coffee break than singing birthday song. No wonders some office no longer allow write off birthday cake expenses.
Ah, everyone wants to know how old you are during the get together. Isn’t it a private matter? Especially in the youth obsess culture like the ours.
Perhaps, I am wrong. May be birthday should be remembered or perhaps I am the only one not too kin on the idea of making a big fuss on the “special date” that happens on a 365 days cycle. The idea of every birthday passes, it on step closer for being obsolete from the work force, is not worth making a big fuss over. What about you?
