Broadway Going Gay

Tuesday Front page NY Times “ New gay shows on Broadway” followed by a half page article on Page 3. I suppose that is good publicity for the new show. What I wonder is what is the fuss.

Gay shows been on the main steam on TV since the 90’s no one make a fuss about it. It is pure entertainment. May be because the theatre industry that is mainly supported by gays finally put their story onto the spot lighted center stage?

Is gay life or love really that different than any others? Do they not have the same set of problems, or similarly under the same oppression and discrimination like any minority groups?

As the critic wrote: These shows are “ Personal, Not Political” My friend characterizes these new shows, as “Gay Gap Theatre. Completely normal and inoffensive”. Built for straight audiences.

Some shows sounded interesting like “ Yanks” Next Fall, and The Pride” but it is all about the same old boring love story. There suppose to be more show about Gay marriage and gay adoption this fall. I am not sure that is something I even wanted to see.

I have not been to any of these show, I reserve my opinion for now. I am surprise that this is such a big news that appeared on the front page of NY Times. What about coverage of my Friends production of 101 Dalmatians. I am not kidding. It is on its way to Broadway, with real puppy. Already open in Madrid and Chicago.
