Spring is in the city

There is no flower blossom yet, and the trees are still bare, but art is in full bloom in the city. After the season opener, the Armory show, it is followed by the Biennial at the Whitney.
On any given weekends, there are abundant of new exhibits in many of the major museums. Some shows are more interesting; the others will be in my back pocket for now.

One show captured my attention is the retrospective of the Grande dame of 1970s performance artist Marina Abramović at the MOMA. Her work “Big Silent” is not easy to achieve, she will sit in silence and motionless amidst the noisy and restless atrium of the museum for the duration of the show (Three months), daily, during the entire opening hours of the museum.

I am not a fan of these types of performance arts, modern. I am going to see it to appreciate, to gain more insight and by chance to expand my horizon in modern art. That is my attitude. What is yours?

There are other interesting exhibits like the Picasso (Met’s collection), and the Tutankhamen’s funeral exhibit opening at the Met is definitely worth seeing. As you can see I am a busy bee. Buzzing around from museum to museums. I am even going to Philly for another Picasso exhibit. Could it be full moon?

I did not neglect all the other modern museums, like the “ New Museum” and the “Guggenheim” etc. NYC is a city of choices I can only do so much on any given weekend. As for going to the free night at the museums when it is opening late. Forget about that, museums at those nights are more often fill with people more than weekends. I am going there to appreciate arts, not to be to seen as art patron. Plus, I can get in free at any time anyway. However one helpful tip is to visit the MOMA when it opens in the morning during the weekend, and the Met on a Saturday or Sunday late afternoon two hours before it closes.
