Are You On The Driver Seat of Your Life?

I got a message from Carins and Vanuatu down under in “the Oz land”. If you are one of those pale skin city people have no idea where these places are. Please Google it. Then you will understand why it is special.

Anyway. The email said during travel by chance he met a lovely Asian girl at the Daintree rain forest. (This is not South Pacific the Broadway revival). She is an interior designer from Canada in her early 30’s. Although she has been very successful in her career, one day she woke up and realized that the last 10 years zipped by like a flash. She has had no time to live her life, with no one to love. One day she make that big decision, she quit her job, sold her house and is on a round the world tour, before she make her life contribution as a volunteer in an orphanage in Uganda. She wants to do something more meaningful with her life before it is too late.

I admire her courage, and principle. However moving to Uganda may be a little extreme? Her effort to help with humanities on the other hand is a noble cause.

We live in a hard working nation; we pay little attention to appreciate life like people live in other parts of the world does. Work is essential to our life, it is the only way to earn a living, it also helps keep us socially engaged, and our brain exercised. Our work life may be a little more vigorous than most other countries. That is because we live in a materialistic society. We work so we can obtain what we wanted, rather than just life needs.

Therefore we work long hours. The more we work, the more materialistic we became, in turn we have to work even harder at satisfy our longing for more. It is a never-ending circle.

Some of us are over achievers, we strive on our success, we set unrealistic goals, and try hard to move mountain to achieve it. However time will not hold off progression for us, when we spend our whole life working, like a flash of light, life is slipping away faster than water in my palm. When we finally woke up, it may be too late. Does it worth it. This is up to you to decide.

Before I got the email I had been thinking on my next move in my life as well. Perhaps slow down a little to find time to do the things I put off for many years. Instead of standing on the sideline admiring others taking control of their life. Never the less it seems like another goal need to be set. Except this time it is achievable. All depends on how much I am will to give up to put myself back on to the driver seat of my life.

Thanks my friend for reminding me not to let life slip away without giving something back.
